Zambia: A 19-year-old male has been stabbed to death in Malelekwa Compound of Mongu District in Western Province. The police force has announced that they have started an investigation into the matter.
Western Province Police Commanding Officer David Chileshe confirmed the incident in Mongu on Saturday. The officials have also identified the deceased as Chingumbe Chingumbe.
Commanding officer Chileshe disclosed that Chingumbe was stabbed with a spear in the lower left rib cage. The accident took place after the victim picked a quarrel with his friend at a drinking spree on January 2, 2024, around 20:00 hours.
Commanding officer Chileshe stated that Chingumbe sustained serious injuries after the disagreement with the friend. The officials have shared that the victim was rushed to Lewanika General Hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, the victim was pronounced dead at around 07:00 hours the following day.
The Police Commanding Officer said police have since instituted a manhunt for the assassin who is still on the run.
Meanwhile, the officials have also spoken about a related development, police have picked up the decomposed body of a 51-year-old man from the Muoyo residential area in the Liliachi community in the Nalolo district of Western Province.
Chileshe who identified the deceased as Sikunda Njamba said the body of the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood on January 4, 2024 around 10:00 hours.
The number of homicide murders in the region has increased in the region. The police force is disappointed with the increased criminal activities.
The Police Commanding Officer noted that he was disheartened by the deaths of the two people in the province and has since implored people in the region to desist from moving at night as junkies may take advantage of them.
Mr. Chileshe also bemoaned the increased defilement cases in the province and has called on civic and traditional leaders with information leading to the bad vice to help by reporting such cases to the police.
