KwaZulu Natal (Downcrest): A 9mm Luger with seven rounds of ammunition was amongst several valuables stolen during a home invasion on Sunlark Drive in Dawncrest – KZN on Wednesday afternoon.
As per reports, five suspects did this, and they came in a white Toyota Rav (registration unknown). Reaction Unit South Africa officers derailed the drive gate and entered the property.
Reports also indicated that the robbers entered the house and held up the victim. They then looted the residence and instructed the victim to point out the location of the safe where his firearm and jewellery were stored.
The suspects loaded two (2) televisions, a cellphone, a laptop, jewellery and a firearm into their getaway vehicle. They then locked the man in one of the rooms before they sped off. The victim removed the burglar bar and fled to a neighbour who contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for immediate assistance at approximately 07:54 in the evening.
On arrival, Reaction Officers were informed that an 18-month-old baby was asleep in her cot during the incident. She was not injured. Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects, but no arrests were made.
Residents and neighbours seemed frustrated as robberies and crime are increasing in the country, and the government is doing nothing for the safety of residents.
One of the residents said, “I am just done with the country and government. I also feel like the government is doing nothing, just wasting time. I also feel it’s high time to leave the country; otherwise, we will die in this crime.”
“How did they know this house contains a safe and firearm. People opt to use banks and vaults instead of safe so that they don’t endanger themselves and loved ones this way. These days, criminals have a crystal ball so they can see which houses have what. Then, they decide which house to rob. Ppl need to be more cautious about who they trust,” said another user.
