KwaZulu Natal (Phoenix): Two (2) female pedestrians fended off two (2) armed attackers on the R102/Phoenix Highway off-ramp – KZN on Wednesday afternoon.
A passerby contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre at approximately 05:07 in the evening after they noticed a female bleeding on the side of the road.
On arrival, Reaction Officers established that both women were walking together when two (2) suspects approached them. They were armed with a firearm and a knife.
The victims refused to hand over their valuables and fought off their attackers. The gunman dropped his replica firearm during the incident. His accomplice stabbed one of the females on her arm and leg before they fled empty handed. The 25 year old was treated for her injuries by Paramedics from a private ambulance service. The other 24 year old victim was not injured.
Residents not only seemed sad but also said Verulam and Phoenix are becoming more and more dangerous each day. He also added that one will never know the pain until it actually happens to u, especially the fear.
Another resident, Bharath Mohanlall, said, “That’s why I always said. These Chinese shops should be banned from selling these replicas. Now, let’s look at the consequences should a licensed firearm holder take one out. Yes, it might be a replica, but to defend himself would be a long, expensive procedure.”
Apart from complaining, people are also praying for the women’s speedy recovery and talking about the surrender process by saying, “So sad. Good people, it’s always better to surrender material possessions than to get hurt or be killed. Your family values you more than material possessions. Speedy recovery.”
