Zambia: The police force of Lusaka has received reports of an attempted murder and suicide in Libala South. The deceased has been identified as Jeff Mulenga. He was a resident of the Libala South Community.
The deceased has reportedly committed suicide after shooting his 23-year-old girlfriend. Notably, the police force is yet to establish the reason for the attempted shooting of the girlfriend. The officials have, however, confirmed that the victim is out of danger and receiving treatment at the hospital.
The deceased, Mulenga, is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old. The now deceased suspect allegedly shot his girlfriend in the abdomen.
The police force has only identified the girlfriend as Bwalya. After the shooting incident, the victim was rushed to the hospital by the authorities. The Police Officers who took the victim to the hospital were responding to a call from members of the public.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, says preliminary investigations have concluded into the matter. According to the reports, the shooting incident happened on 26th March, 2024 around 22:00 hours at the victim’s house in Chalala area.
According to the police spokesperson, around 23:30 hours, Police received a report that the suspect had shot himself in the State Lodge area of Libala South. The officers were dispatched to the scene of the crime. The officers who rushed to the scene found Mulenga lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound on the chest.
The police force found car keys, which allegedly belonged to the suspect, and a pistol at the scene. Further, the police found the suspect’s vehicle, a Mazda BT 50, parked outside.
It was parked in front of the gate of one of the houses within the area.
According to the Police PRO, the responding officers also rushed the suspect to the University Teaching Hospital. On arrival at the medical facility, he was pronounced dead.
Further, the police force secured the suspect’s vehicle at the police station. The people of the country have expressed their disappointment over the incident. They expressed that he should not have entered a relationship if the man could not control his anger.
