Foreigner shot dead inside his shop at John Laing Compound

Zambia: A foreigner was found dead and is suspected to have shot with a gun. The man was identified as thirty-five years old and believed to be a Burundian. He was discovered dead inside his shop which is located in a compound of Lusaka’s John Laing.

Reportedly, the case was twisted as one of the suspects in the case was arrested by the Police earlier and later tried to escape. While trying to escape, he was shot with a gun and was declared dead upon reaching the University Teaching Hospital.

As per the sources, the victim was identified as Anderson Uwela, renting and staying in the shop. Later in the Police investigation, it was found that unknown people murdered him between 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024.

According to the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer – Danny Mwale, the victim sustained deep cuts on his forehead and it is suspected that machete was used in the ordeal.

Deputy Police PRO stated that the perpetrators went away with an undisclosed amount of money and a Cell phone and added that they entered by breaking the shop’s lock system.

As per the reports, around 5:00 pm on the material day, the Police arrested one suspect who was identified as Robert Sinkala aged 25. He is also known as Kelony and has been on the wanted list of the Police for various crimes that included murder and robberies around John Laing.

Through his statement, Danny Mwale conveys that Sinkala led the Police Officers for recoveries in John Laing and Kanyama Compounds, where machetes and an axe, along with other offensive weapons, were recovered around 10:00 p.m.

Moreover, as the Police officers proceeded further to recover the stolen Cellular phone, the suspect ran away. Prompting them to fire warning shots, later in the process he was caught by a bullet and sustained a fatal wound.

He was then rushed to the University Teaching Hospital where he was declared dead. The body is waiting for the formal identification and post-mortem in the hospital mortuary.
