Botswana: The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) invited STEM oriented organizations of the country to participate in the 2024 Annual National Science Week. The organizations are being asked to present at, or exhibit their products and creations at the event.
The theme of the science week is “An inquiring mind: a gateway to creativity and innovation.” The event will be hosted for a period of five days, starting August 26 to August 30, 2024 in Tlokweng, Botswana.
The event is being hosted by BIUST in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, Knowledge, and Technology (MCKT). The aim of the National Science Week is to encourage participation among people interested in science, engineering, and technology.
Through the initiative the organization seeks to promote scientific literacy and public awareness of STEM and its utility. The NSW commemoration gives the learners researchers and inventors a platform to showcase their researches, inventions, thoughts.
The National Science Week will be an opportunity for the attendants to celebrate their dreams. It is a platform to demonstrate and to appreciate the role of STEM in businesses and economic advancement.
The main objectives of the National Science Week are as follows:
- To promote public awareness, appreciation and understanding of Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation nationally.
- To stimulate interest in STEM subjects at primary and secondary school levels.
- To expose the public to scientific and technological advances.
- Provide a platform for showcasing research and innovation products with a view of exposing commercialisation potential to entrepreneurs.
The science week will feature panel discussion sessions on topical STEM issues. The exhibitions and presentations should be inline with the following thematic areas or any other themes encapsulating the essence of an evolving STEM driven economy:
- Leveraging technology to reach more Batswana
- Youth Into STEM Initiatives
- Local STEM Innovation Promotion
- Policy Influence for Sustainable Development
- Outreach for Engagement and Impact
- Shared Value Promotion
Prospective participants should download, complete, and submit the application forms highlighting the aims, content, and contributions of the project / seminar presentation to the secretariat. All requests for participation will undergo the approval process and feedback will be provided.
