Tonota District Council is commemorating the Day of an African Child on Monday and Tuesday with parade, essay and debate competitions

Botswana: Tonota District Council is commemorating the Day of an African Child. Africa and the rest of the world is commemorating the event under the theme “Education for all Children in Africa: The time is now”.

The commemoration events for June 16 were also hosted in the other parts of Botswana. The aim of the event is to promote the academic prowess of the country. The administration sought to encourage the students to participate in the celebration of Day of an African Child.

The Tonota District Council shared that they will organize a series of activities and events to commemorate the day. The events will be hosted on Monday and Tuesday, as an extension to the celebration of Day of an African Child.

On Monday, the Tonota District Council will be hosting a Essay Writing competition for the students of the Upper Primary schools of the district. The competition will be hosted at the Borolong Primary School at 10:00 AM.

The students from the upper primary schools across the district can participate in the initiative and show off their talent. The essay writing competition will cultivate creativity and critical thinking in the people of the country.

On Tuesday, the children will  participate in a March by African Children. The march will start at 7:30 Hours from the Borolong filling station to Kgotla.

The march will be followed by  a brief address by the National Deputy Chairperson of the Children’s Forum. The address will be delivered at the Borolong Main Kgotla at 8:30 Hours.

Following this, the FNB Branch manager will be delivering a brief address at 9:00 Hours at the same venue. The commemoration will conclude with a debate between Thalogang Versus Ohambona JSS.

The event will challenge the students to dig deep into their intellects and give their best for the debate and essay writing contests. The theme of this year’s commemoration makes it clear that the administrations must work together to extend educational opportunities to children in Africa.

The theme also highlights the urgency of the actions needed from the administration of Botswana. Gaborone also commemorated the day in a series of events, which were attended by government and private officials.
