Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saimt Lucia, Philip J Pierre has increased his efforts to advocate for climate action. PM Pierre took to his social media account to make the said declaration in light of the  devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl
The new development came at the heels of the Prime Minister’s Trip to St Vincent and The Grenadines. During this trip, the Prime Minister was accompanying his colleagues and Prime Ministerial counterparts of St Kitts and Nevis, Commonwealth of Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda.
The heads of the OECS had travelled to the St Vincent and The Grenadines to check on the extent of damage that the island has sustained as a result of the category four Hurricane Beryl. The Prime Ministers teamed up to check on the damage  caused by the hurricane and pledged to support the nation’s recovery efforts.
The Prime Minister shared some glimpses from his visit to St Vincent and The Grenadines, extending his solidarity to the Prime Minister of the twin islands. PM Philip J Pierre highlighted that the experience of the hurricane highlights the need for quicker climate action.
He appreciated Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves for his leadership while he navigates the situation with the recovery efforts of his nation. The leaders assembled in St Vincent and The Grenadines acknowledged the severe need for support.
PM Pierre highlighted that the island needs the support of several million dollars to rebuild from the scratch. They need to rebuild homes for the people who have lost their property in the destructive hurricane.
Further, several pieces of infrastructure within the island also ned to be rebuilt for the benefit of the people. In light of this, PM Pierre called on the Developed world to act fast and support the people affected by the natural disaster.
He said that he and his Prime Ministerial colleagus will continue to campaign and appeal for climate action. He also noted that even though the damage is extensive, he finds the resilient people of St Vincent and The Grenadines.
The leaders of the CARICOM have pledged to stand by the nation and its people in this challenging time.The Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit pledged a support of $1,000,000 to the rehabilitation and rebuilding effort.
His support signifies that the leaders of the Caribbean can do not hesitate to unite in the face of any crisis.
