Botswana: Gaborone City Council has entered into a collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and Security (MDS) to clean the bus rank. The city council has been working hard to promote cleanliness in the capital city clean and pristine.
The officials have shared that they have been urging the members of the community to help the administration of the city to maintain cleanliness, hygiene and beauty of the city intact. The administration has organized several cleanup campaigns to this end, aiming to include more people.
The cleanup initiatives have been part of the city council’s calendar for several months. The cleanup campaign in collaboration with Ministry of Defence and Security was part of the mindset change 1 year commemoration.
The Gaborone City Council, MDS Mindset Change Team (Team 40) and Dot Vision have hosted the campaign as a part of the build up activities. The mindset change campaign will be completing a year on July 31, 2024.
However, the celebratory event in honor of the first anniversary of the campaign will be hosted on August 14th in Seronga village.
The clean up campaign activities included litter picking and removal of illegally dumped waste, cleaning of storm water drainages. During the said event, the authorities also took the opportunity to sensitising informal sector businesses on environment upkeep.
Team 40 representative Keletso Mzuku came forward to express her belief in the capability sof the people. She noted that it is vital for everyone to take a stand in ensuring cleanliness within their environment.
Mzuku stated that recycling waste can be very helpful in keeping the environment tidy. She said recycling of waste can help improve environment outlook hence help curb accidents. At the same time, recycling waste can also help in taking a major step in protecting the environment.
Mzuku highlighted that a clean environment is where everyone is involved in waste management and safety measures by ensuring that members of the community adhere to cleanliness of the environment.
