Botswana: Kweneng District Council has taken the opportunity to award Handicrafts artisans during the minishow event. The event was hosted at the Mafenyatlala Mall with several creatives of the district in attendance.
The awards event was expected to encourage the people to engage more in creative ideas. The officials have shared that they are working hard to ensure that the creatives can continue to flourish.
According to the Kweneng District Council, during this event that the best artisans are awarded with certificates. The event was officials opened by the Principal programmes Officer from Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) Thabo Percy Seema.
The theme of this 2024 edition of the Awards event is “Discovering the transformative power of technology weaving the economic stimulus, culture and environmental sustainability”. The aim of this year’s mini show was to provide artisans with opportunities to showcase their diverse skills.
Further the organization wants to encourage small businesses to thrive by promoting entrepreneurship and knowledge sharing. The officials have shared some images from the awards event on their social media.
The guest speaker Seema expressed his satisfaction with the community development department’s efforts over the past year. The community development includes trainings, provision of equipment, mentoring and marketing.
“Our goal is to combat poverty and boost the economy, as doing nothing would not suffice” Seema said. He encouraged all artisans to use online platforms to sell their products, rather than relying solely on fairs, as it is time to recognize the power of technology.
Chairman of the SS& RADP, Andrew Selwe, expressed his delight in witnessing the remarkable skills and craftsmanship of Batswana. He was happy to note that the creatives are earning a living through their handcrafts.
He commended their efforts in promoting the district economic growth and encouraged the artisans to approach their work with dedication. He also highlighted the benefits of technology noting that the internet could enable them to market their products globally.
He assured them that with continued hard work, their businesses would be blessed and continue to flourish.
