South Africa: The Director-General for the National Department of Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Robert Nkuna presented the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) for the 7th Administration. The Director-General made the presentation at a Special Forum of Heads of Department session.
The session was convened by the Free State Provincial Government Director-General, Kopung Ralikontsane on August 26. The officials have shared that the members of the community at O.R Tambo House in Bloemfontein.
The officials have shared the images from the event on their social media. The organizers of the forum said that the session was attended by Heads of Department (HODs). He also noted that as well as Senior government officials from all provincial government departments, responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation.
The officials discussed the outcome of the general elections on 29 May 2024. The officials acknowledged that the elections saw the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The officials have shared that which led to a Statement of Intent. The statement of intent guided the GNU and laid the foundational principles and minimum programme of priorities.
As such, the Forum of South African Directors-General (FOSAD) convened in June and July 2024 to finalize the draft Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP). According to the officials which was a proposal for the first GNU Cabinet Lekgotla’s consideration.
According to the officials, The MTDP will thus serve as the 5-year medium-term plan for the 7th Administration of the Government.
The draft will serve as the implementation framework for the National Development Plan (NDP): Vision 2030. According to the officials, Vision 2030 is the existing long-term plan for South Africa towards 2030.
The MTDP proposes three strategic priorities for the future of the nation. These are: Inclusive growth & job creation, reducing poverty and tackling the high cost of living, and building a capable, ethical & developmental state.
The MTDP will continue to align with the goals and objectives of the NDP and Programme of Priorities of the GNU, giving greater emphasis on development outcomes and framed, primarily, as an economic plan to address existing socio-economic challenges in South Africa.
