Malawi: World Vision Malawi has constructed a One Stop Centre at Nkhoma Hospital in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mazengera in Lilongwe. The one stop center will serve as one way of helping the members of the community in accessing the government facilities.
The center will help in the success of the government initiative will help in the promotion of government presence in the community. The officials have shared that the leaders have shared that it is important for the community to be able to access to government facilities.
World Vision Malawi Associate Director of Programmes, Mabvuto Kholowa said the hospital will construct said the organization thought of constructing the facility in the area after seeing that many children are being abused and fail to obtain justice on time.
“What we are trying to do is that any victim of child abuse should get the services within the shortest period. They should be able to seek justice and get assisted medically by the health workers,” he said.
Kholowa disclosed that through different interventions such as education, health, agriculture and livelihood resilience, the organization is targeting to reach out to two million children with the services across the country.
Commenting on the development, Sub-Inspector Laudan Frank Kaira who is also Community Policing Coordinator for Lilongwe Police Station thanked World Vision Malawi for constructing the facility which, he believes, will go a long way in reducing cases of child abuse in the area.
“We have been receiving many cases of child and women abuse from this area. Many of these were being handled at Lilongwe Police Station which is far from here. With this infrastructure, time and money spent to get justice will be reduced,” he said.
District Commissioner for Lilongwe, Lawford Palani, called on people in the area to use the facility for the intended purpose so that cases of child abuse and Gender Based Violence (GBV) should come to an end.
“Child abuse is evil. Children that are being abused are those that would have assisted in the development of the country,” he said.
Nkhoma One Stop Centre is expected to serve over 5,000 people in the area
