Mauritius has successfully concluded the 2024 general elections on Noveember 10. The elections resulted in the victory of Alliance of Change in Mauritius led by Navin Ramgoolam. The newly elected political party has won 60 seats in the national assembly out of the total 64.
Navin Ramgoolam has been elected into the office of the Prime Minister after the November 10 polls. The world leaders have come forward to congratulate the leader and his team for their victory in the electoral process.
Hundreds and thousands of eligible voters turned up in large numbers to cast their vote for their preferred leaders. The officials have shared that the members of the community
This landslide victory of the political party suggests that the people of Mauritius had been looking forward to change. The election observation mission, which consisted of officials from different nations, claimed that the elections were hosted in a peaceful and fair manner.
The electoral mission applauded all the organizations which helped in making the election process easy and straight forward. The Heads of the International Electoral Observation Missions gave their preliminary statements on Tuesday.
The statements were delivered at the Caudan Arts in Port-Louis. The government has confirmed that 100 observers were in Mauritius to witness the electoral process.
The aim of the team was to make sure that it was in line with regional and international instruments and legal framework. The team consisted of the following members:
- Former Chief Justice of the United Republic of Tanzania and Head of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), Mohammed Chande Othman
- Head of Mission of the African Union Electoral Observation Mission (AUEOM), Dr Joyce Mujuru
- Head of Mission of the Francophonie Electoral Observer Mission (FEO), Nicolae Popescu
- Head of Mission of the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC), Bishop Sipho Tembe.
Mohammed Chande Othman appreciated the people of the island nation for their conduct during the election process. He claimed that the country was calm and peaceful during pre-election, election day and post-immediate election.
Talking about the Mauritius Police Force, the leader of the electoral mission said, the Police maintained vigilance and peace. As such they were able to give the nation the perfect environment for the elections.
