Malawi: Warge Records held an Urban Music competition dubbed: ‘The Next Big Ting.’ the organisation, through this competition wanted to highlight the musical talent of their communities.
The competition was kickstarted with a bang on October 5 and artists from different genres could participate in the event to showcase their talents. Wanangwa Phiri, who is the Founder and Producer at Warge Records spoke of the significance of the project. He said that the records company has given many artists a chance to show their talent and wow crowds of fans and admirers.
The record label has helped many artists bring their exceptional talents to the forefront. The organization has been working with artists for several years.
The artists whom the Warge Records have given a platform have turned out to be very popular musicians eventually in their careers. The organization hosts a number of Riddim Projects, as well as Music Shows for emerging artists.
They are essentially going for the same thing with ‘Next Big Ting’ music competition which will allow artists across Malawi to participate.
The competition was targeting young artists from the age of 20 below to be given a chance to record five songs for free. “During the competition the elements that the judges were looking for where originality, melody, composition and lyrics. After the analysis Rixy-B emerged the winner,” he said.
Afro Pop artist, Rixy-B real name Alickangelo Lazaro for winning the competition will get a five all paid for studio sessions at Warge Records, shoot videos and promotion for the five songs that shall be recorded. Rixy-B acknowledged that the competition was tough, and there were many talented artists he also thanked the Warge Records for the opportunity.
He noted that the project will allow him opportunity to grow his music. The contestant said that the contest has helped in shaping his career and recording five songs for free
One of the judges, stage popular as Blaze and also known as Blessings Gwengwe said the competition has the potential of helping young stars. The competition was contested by 15 young artists who recorded their songs with the same instruments and submitted to the panel of judges.
The Late Mafunyeta, Malinga Mafia, Blaze, Mady P, Gibo Lantosi are some of the artists on the Warge Records rooster.
