Malawi: A motor collision with the freight liner truck has claimed the life of a woman in Karonga District. The accident happened in the late evening hours of the day at the Wovwe Trading Center.
The woman has been identified as Dyna Mwenegamba Gondwe. The 50 year old lost her life to the road traffic accident. Allegedly, the motor vehicle that she was travelling in crashed in the freight liner truck.
The accident, which happened on Tuesday has since been reported to the Karonga Police Officers. The investigation into the incident has started and the facts of the accidents were presented to the media. Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Karonga Police Station, Constable Margret Msiska shared the news of the accident.
The officials have shared that thee vehicle was being driven by Kenneth Gondwe. The vehicle is identified as a Toyota Sienta. The registration number for the vehicle was CP 6403.
The driver was accompanying his wife and three other passengers from Chilumba heading towards Karonga boma. When the car reached the Wovwe trading center, he started overtaking a freight liner registration number MN 9188-KU 1067.
The other vehicle was also heading in the same direction. In the course of overtaking, he collided with it at the front edge and lost control of the vehicle due to over speeding,” said Msiska.
The Police Public Relations officer haas shared that the vehicle also hit one male pedestrian. The victim was walking on the side of the road when the vehicle collision happened after which the vehicle hit a road embarkment which made the vehicle to over turn twice before resting.
“Following the impact, the driver’s wife, Dyna Mwenegamba Gondwe, sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nyungwe Health Center”, she added.
According to the poli ce public relations officer, the driver and other three victims and the pedestrian have escaped after getting only minor injuries.
The affected persons are currently receiving medical treatment at Nyungwe Health Center. The deceased victim, Gondwe was a resident of the Chivundiko village, Traditional Authority Wansambo in Karonga District.
