Kenya: WWF Kenya is making efforts to improve water access in Lamu County so that people easily get the fresh water. To initiate this ,the team has constructed an all-new water pan in the Pangani area.
The Pangani area water pan is constructed near Lake Kenyatta which is now serving over 60,000 households living there. This project by WWF Kenya will provide a reliable water for domestic use, agriculture and livestock, especially during the dry season.
WWF Kenya has described this water pan project as a climate adaptation initiative and said that it is a part of the Triple Benefits Project which is funded by Danida through WWF Verdensnaturfonden.
Pangani areas water pan has been built with an objective to reduce pressure on Lake Kenyatta, which will resolve the conflict between the crop farmers and pastoralists, to support the conservation by curbing and controlling over-extraction and siltation.
The facility by WWF Kenya, was officially handed over by the CEO Mohamed Awer to the Lamu County Government Governor – Issa Timamy on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
