Diplomatic relations between the African continent and China continue to take deep roots. This year will be the 70th year anniversary of these strengthened ties that are advancing the nations through structured collaborations.
Over the years, the African nations have seen many projects come to life through this strong bond. Railways and highways in Africa continue to advance throughout the continent, while landmark buildings, industrial parks, and factories are expanding more quickly.
On the 4th of September 2024, Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema agreed to revitalize the Tanzania – Zambia Railway known as TAZARA with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) managing the operation. The revitalization of the 1,860 km (1,156 mile) single-track railway linking the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to New Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia is set to enter a major modernization phase this year.
Moreover, China has strengthened the continent’s connectivity foundations by completing track-laying for Africa’s first heavy-haul desert railway, upgrading and renovating Mozambique’s historic Nacala Port, and renewing the technical service agreement for the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway.
The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, is continuously showing his steadfast dedication to maintaining and deepening the China – Africa relations. He has described the diplomatic relationship as being guided by enduring friendship and unwavering support.
“China and Africa are good friends, partners and brothers who assist and support each other,” stated President Xi Jinping.
As the years keep progressing, China keeps leaving its footprints in the African continent and intensifying practical cooperation with African partners under the Belt and Road Initiative. President Xi shared that China’s advancement and development will be used to benefit Africa by aiding in achieving common development throughout the continent.
President Xi added that, now that China is more developed, it is better placed to act on the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, help our African friends achieve common development, and build a stronger China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
