Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with the Chairman of CARICOM and Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis – Dr. Terrance Drew, as a part of Chairman’s engagement with Member States ahead of the 50th Regular meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government.
Their meeting completely focused of regional integration matters and the critical that CARICOM plays in advancing practical and collective solutions for the people of Caribbean Community.
A ‘Good Gesture’ of Strong Regional Cooperation
During the meeting Prime Minister Skerrit acknowledged Chairman Drew for conducting these visits to Member States and described this initiative as ‘a good gesture’ that will shape the agenda and will facilitate more robust discussions and better outcomes at the upcoming 50th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis from February 24 to 27, 2026.
PM Skerrit marked this meeting as a strong regional cooperation which is more important than ever as they navigate global uncertainty, strengthen the economies and will advance sustainable development across the Caribbean Community. He noted that it is a challenging time, and explained that at every opportunity, the Caribbean has overcome its challenges.
According to Skerrit, with a greater sense of unity and solidarity within the Community, they can overcome these challenges in better way, as they are always stronger together.
Aims to Serve People with More Benefits
Chairman Dr. Terrance Drew also shared a video clip of this meeting and said that this visit symbolises great effort to engage with leaders face-to-face ahead of the upcoming meeting in February. It ensures that the work of CARICOM remains relevant to the people of the region.
Drew marked this as a productive meeting and said that expressed the objective which is to make sure that CARICOM continues to serve the people and to strengthen CARICOM, so that the people can receive more benefits.
Their discussions also addressed priority issues that is expected to be on the Heads meeting agenda, including the advancement of regional integration, strengthening trade and intra-regional relations and reviewing the functioning of key regional institutions.
The leaders are confident that the 50th Regular Meeting of Heads of Government will further solidify regional cooperation and will reinforce founding principles of CARICOM at a time when unity and collective actions are more important.
