St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew underscored the commitment of the government to cultural preservation and sustainable development with the transformation of the historic Fort Thomas site into a landmark tourism and heritage destination.
PM Drew noted that for years, the grounds of Fort Thomas remained largely underutilised along the nation’s coastline. Now, the site is being reimagined into a vibrant space i.e. designed to celebrate the national history, foster economic opportunities, and offer visitors an authentic experience of the country’s unique identity.
He expressed that it is the Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments Project. He described it as a significant step toward strengthening national pride and preserving cultural legacy. The project is also expected to play a pivotal role in expanding the tourism sector while creating new avenues for employment and skills development.
Drew further emphasised that the ongoing development is all about infrastructure and also about empowering citizens through job creation and capacity building. He added that such initiatives reflect the broader vision of the government of inclusive growth and long-term prosperity.

The historic Fort Thomas site in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis is undergoing through a significant transformation as construction progresses on the Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments Project. It marks a new chapter for the once-abandoned property.
The development aims to establish a world-class cultural and tourism destination that highlights the rich heritage of the Caribbean. The project will feature a Caribbean History Museum, iconic monuments, landscaped botanical gardens, restaurants and dedicated event spaces.
Major highlight of the development is a landmark tribute to National Hero Sir Robert L. Bradshaw, which recognises his enduring contributions to the nation. The construction was commenced in December 2025. It is already delivering tangible economic benefits. The initiative is strengthening local capacity within the construction and tourism sectors.
The officials noted that the project forms part of a broader strategy to diversify the tourism industry while preserving and promoting the national heritage. It blends historic preservation with modern infrastructure. Further the development is expected to attract both regional and international visitors.
As the work gets completed, the revitalised Fort Thomas site is poised to become a powerful symbol of resilience, cultural identity and national pride, while contributing meaningfully to long-term economic growth.
