Kenya: The global cruise industry is charting a new course with official opening of the Seatrade Cruise Global Conference and Exhibition in Miami, Florida. It is the one defined by innovation, sustainability and the rise of emerging destinations.
It is known as one of the largest gatherings in the sector. The event brings together key stakeholders, industry players, and policymakers to shape conversations around the future of cruising amid shifting global trends and dynamics.
Considering this, the industry leaders during the opening emphasised collaboration and resilience as key drivers that are shaping the next chapter of global cruising.
The MSC Group’s Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division – Pierfrancesco Vago noted that the next phase of cruising will be defined by how well industry players balance rapid growth with responsible environmental stewardship. This statement by him, underscored the critical shift of the industry towards sustainability, while also maintaining strong momentum in the post pandemic recovery.
Coming back home, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has witnessed significant increase in the number of cruise ship arrivals at the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu. The debut of new cruise liners has added Mombasa as a port stop in their itineraries. This demonstrates the rising international interest in Kenya as a preferred cruise destination.
Kenya Tourism Board affirmed this and cited that cruise tourism is the fastest growing segment among all tourism segments in the country.
A delegation from KPA will be led by GM Corporate Services, known as Edward Kamau, who will represent the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Captain William Ruto, Finance GM – Geoffrey Kavate, and Manager Marketing and Customer Experience – Miriam Mwakundia, and will attend the conference.
The team will engage with various industry leaders to share insights and explore potential areas of collaboration, as the Authority seeks to achieve growth in both vessel and passenger arrivals at the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu, in Kenya.
