South Africa is celebrating Freedom Day on April 27, 2026. An important day to remember all the struggle the freedom fighters handled to make the country independent.
Considering this, Cape Town’s award-winning tourism platform Love Cape Town shared a video on their official social media platform. They urged Capetonians to – step into South Africa’s past by joining the Long March to Freedom in Cape Town. It is an immersive outdoor exhibition that honours the country’s heroes.
Here at freedom march, visitors will find bronze statues of former president Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu to Walter Sisulu.
Set against the backdrop of Table Mountain, this heritage tourism attraction is fun for all ages. They highlighted, as you wander the 100 life-size bronze sculptures of liberation heroes, you can experience the country’s 350-year journey to freedom and democracy.
The ticket prices vary for locals and foreigners, as South Africans and permanent residents have to pay R20 for a self-guided tour. While international visitors have to pay R75 for a guided tour, and children under 6 can enjoy this totally cost free.
Furthermore, to celebrate Freedom Day on Monday, April 27, 2026 the attraction is hosting a fun experience with kiddies activities, wine tasting, and cafe specials, beginning from 10am to 4pm. Enjoy entry by donation for South Africans.

About South Africa Freedom Day
Freedom Day is annual public holiday in South Africa which is celebrated on 27 April. It commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on that day in 1994. And the day on which the new constitution was introduced.
The elections were the first national elections where everyone of voting age of over 18 from any race group, was allowed to vote. It is one of the twelve public holidays determined by the Public Holidays Act (No. 36 of 1994).
On the first commemoration of the holiday, President Nelson Mandela addressed the Parliament, and stated:
“As a new dawn ushered in this day, the 27th of April 1994, few of us could suppress the welling of emotion, as we were reminded of the terrible past from which we come as a nation; the great possibilities that we now have; and the bright future that beckons us. And so we assemble here today, and in other parts of the country, to mark a historic day in the life of our nation. Wherever South Africans are across the globe, our hearts beat as one, as we renew our common loyalty to our country and our commitment to its future.”
Freedom Day reminds South Africans of the immeasurable sacrifices made by individuals and nations to break them away from the chains of unjust segregation by a selected few. It reminds them of the efforts of their national heroes, particularly Nelson Mandela.
He is regarded as a champion of freedom, not only in South Africa but the entire world. It is a day that not only marks the emancipation of South Africans from apartheid but also returned their essential human rights in 1994.
