The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure organised a two day Capacity Building Workshop for Directors of Youth Construction Companies. The workshop was also attended by youngsters with vocational skills in Letlhakane on September 24, 2026.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Keoagile Atamelang officiated at the event and welcomed participants for the event. He also appreciated the youth for attending the event in large numbers and being willing to learn and improve their knowledge.

During the workshop, the Minister highlighted that the construction industry has been the backbone of the country’s infrastructure. He said that the sector has been crucial in shaping towns and cities and providing essential services to the people of the country
The Minister, also called the construction industry, is dynamic and innovative which focuses on career development, purpose, inclusivity, technology, educational engagement, and offers rewarding opportunities.
He noted that the Government has several projects coming up under the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), which present immense opportunities for young people.
The Minister gave the attendants of the event an insight into the available opportunities including careers in civil engineering, quantity surveying, architecture, project management, surveying, building, electrical and plumbing services, road construction, equipment operation, health and safety, entrepreneurship and many other specialised areas.
“This workshop therefore provides an opportunity to equip young people with the knowledge and practical skills they need to participate more effectively in the construction industry.”
” It is also an opportunity to learn about the realities of the industry, including professional standards, workplace ethics, occupational health and safety, quality standards, project management and the importance of innovation,” said the Minister.
