The Western Cape Mobility Department is launching October Mobility Month as the province marks 70 years of Provincial Traffic in the Western Cape. The month officially begins tomorrow, Thursday October 1, 2026.
The department also launched an Mobility open day for residents for the first time under the October Mobility month. The event is commencing tomorrow Thursday October 1, 2026 at the Vantage Shared Services centre, Bridgetown, in Athlone. The event will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
In the event individuals will get the experience of Mobility on action including free vehicle safety checks and jobseeker travel voucher registration. Moreover, throughout the day attendees will get first hand information on motor vehicle licensing & roadworthiness, public transport permit assistance, traffic careers & bursaries, electric vehicle showcase, and bicycle maintenance station.
The department also organised a special area for attendees in which they can enjoy food and kids play areas. The event will start with an official parade by the Department’s Traffic Cadets. Moreover, Western Cape Mobility Head of Communication, Muneera Allie requested the community to attend the event as it will provide them an opportunity to explore and learn new things regarding the mobility across the Western Cape.
She said, “For our Open day, we’re inviting residents to come and meet the people behind our services, ask questions, make use of what we have on offer and learn more about how we are working to keep people and goods moving across the Western Cape”.
Allie further stated that mobility is not just about moving from one place to another. She explained that through mobility they are focusing on sharing the thought that mobility is also about connecting people to education, work, services and opportunities and getting goods where they need to be. She said “We all move for a reason”.
Additionally, Western Cape Government organises October Mobility Month every year to promote road safety including addressing traffic congestion and showcase infrastructure improvements.
