Zambia: The Confederation trophy arrived in the Country for a three day tour ahead of the AFCON 2023 tournament scheduled to start on 14th January 2024 in Ivory Coast.
Total-energies, the title sponsor of the tournament, is hosting the trophy on its three day tour in the Country.
The Company’s Head of Retail and Digital, Anthony Gichuki, explains that the trophy will be displayed at different Total-energies service stations in Lusaka so that soccer fans may catch a glimpse of the treasured trophy.
“Zambia is among the few African Countries that have been selected to host the trophy, “Mr Gichuki said, adding: “Apart from the tours, there will be a youth football tournament on Sunday at Summit Stadium.”
Furthermore, she asserted, “The winning team will receive a model Africa trophy and has encouraged soccer fans to show up in large numbers to support the young ones.”
And Total-energies Managing Director Salamanca Ball said her oil company is proud to be a part of the soccer tournament which she said is one of the most prestigious events in the world.
She further revealed that the trophy tour will allow football fans in the Country who will not make it to Ivory Coast to experience the cup.
“ Total -energies are running a number of activities and competitions for football lovers to win a chance to watch the tournament in January on Ivory Coast.
“ I encourage all Zambians to participate and stand a chance to win, “ she said.
The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament will he held from 13th January to 11th February 2024 after being postponed from June 2023.
Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu says the Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) trophy tour must inspire the Chipolopolo to challenge for the title ahead of the tournament that swings into action next January in Ivory Coast.
The 2024 AFCON is scheduled to be the 34th edition of the biennial African football tournament organised by CAF.
