Zambia: Africa Development Bank has been involved in the constriction of several water projects in remote areas across Zambia. The aim of these projects is to allow communities living in villagees and remote, hardto reach areas access to water.
The Africa Development Bank announced this project after the communities began to be affected by the cholera outbreak. The 2023 outbreak of cholera which resulted in the death of over 10,000 affected persons, made the need for the project more apparent.
The stakeholders of Development bank had to step in and take charge of the situation. Task Manager, Herbert Chinokolo has appealed to the provincial administration in Western Province to continue the monitoring of these small water towns projects being implemented by the Bank in the province.
The water projects will help in making sure that all the members of the country can protect themselves from infections such as cholera. The sanitation and hygiene situation in thee various districts of Zambia needs to be taken more seriously.
Chinokolo made the appeal when he and his team paid a courtesy call on Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Richard Mulwanda at his office yesterday.
“We are here to monitor the progress made on all water projects in the four districts where the Bank is having water projects in a bid to provide safe drinking water to the people in all the 16 districts of the province.” Said the Task Manager
“These physical inspections of the water projects by the Bank and other players will enable us to find out ways of resolving challenges affecting the progression of the projects. The project has over two thousand two hundred water borne points already developed and are in use, which is commendable,” he said.
Mr Chinokolo also said the Africa Development Bank funded project has provided sanitation facilities in many public places. These include markets and bus stations in some districts in the province.
He also said that that they have done quite enough in ensuring that people have access to hygienic facilities.
