The selection method that influenced the African Tourism Board (ATB) is the growing interest from markets such as Germany and the United States (US), where tourists are continuously prioritising responsible, experience-driven travel over mass-market tourism.
ATB highlighted the ‘Space as the New Luxury’ initiative of Namibia for travellers that combines with vast and low-density landscapes of the nation with safety and strong infrastructure.
The tourism board noted that the travellers in 2025 are no longer looking for crowded experiences. Instead, what they are actually seeking is space, silence and scale. “Namibia with its authenticity without compromise, proves that being demanding of visitors is exactly what makes it so rewarding,” stated ATB.

Also, the sustainable tourism model of the country is a key factor in its appeal. Namibia emphasises environmental protection, community benefit and high-value along with low-impact travel.
Over 40% of Namibia’s land is under conservation management. It is maintaining a legacy of being the first African nation to enshrine environmental protection in its constitution.
As per ATB, “Namibia is not designed for quick, high-volume tourism. It is for travellers who are intentional about the impact they leave behind.”
With its vast distances and endless gravel roads, Namibia is best explored through self-drive adventures, requiring navigational skills, mechanical awareness and most importantly self-reliance.
