The primary and prominent organ of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has approved Bukedea Women MP Anita Among as the flag bearer in the forthcoming speakership race.

As per the sources, the representatives interviewed the candidates, and it was a long interview. Various candidates gave it, the top organ of the ruling party cleared Among as deceased ‘Jacob Oulanyah’s’ replacement.

According to the sources of State House in Entebbe, where the meeting and interview took place, she left smiling when she was selected as the next Speaker of Parliament.

The vice-chairperson of Eastern Uganda of NRM, Capt Mike Mukulua, who is a CEC member, personally confirmed this development.

As per the official tweet by Mukula, “Rt Hon Anita Among’ was approved by CEC as the next Speaker of Parliament of Uganda on Wednesday evening.

After being approved by the top party ruling organ, Among beat the other 11 NRM MPs competing for the position.

State Minister for Defence, Jacob Oboth Oboth, Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi, Dokolo South County MP Felix Okot Ogong, Theodore Ssekikubo, Jackson Atima Lee, Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi, State Minister for Sports Hamson Obua, Alex Kintu Brandon(Kagoma North legislator), Florence Asiimwe Akiiki(Masindi district Woman MP), Okot John Amos and Pius Wakabi are the other MPs who wanted the position.

Among will carry the NRM flag, as well as wrestle it with the opposition candidates during the elections, which is going to be held on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Kololo independence grounds to replace Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, who lost his life on Sunday from the US where he was admitted for his further treatment.

Article 82(4) of the Constitution of Uganda provides that No business shall be transacted in Parliament other than an election to the office of Speaker at any time that office is vacant.

After her victory, she tweeted various things. She showed her sadness for ‘Jacob Oulanyah’s’ in which she stated, “It is my earnest prayer that we conclude this process with nobility and decorum as a befitting tribute to our beloved departed leader, the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.

And after a few seconds, she again tweeted and said, “May the Almighty God grant us the courage and fortitude to overcome this trying moment in the history of our Parliament For God and my Country. ANITA ANNET AMONG, MP DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT.”

And her following tweet was, “May the Almighty God grant us the courage and fortitude to overcome this trying moment in the history of our Parliament For God and my Country. ANITA ANNET AMONG, MP DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT.”

Then she showed her sadness for former Parliament speaker and stated that “t is my earnest prayer that we conclude this process with nobility and decorum as a befitting tribute to our beloved departed leader, the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.”
