Balaka police arrest man for defiling 5 year old boy

Malawi: Police in Balaka has arrested a 38-year-old man for sexually abusing a five year old. The police officers have confirmed that the suspect bribed the victim with K100 to  stop him from reporting the  incident.

The Police force arrested the suspect on Wednesday, over a mont after the incident in question originally happened. The Police force has identified the suspect as Kefasi Kambanizithe and revealed that he had been on the run for the last month.

Balaka Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha shared the details of the incident with the media through an official statement. He informed the media that the Police force has  charged the suspect with indecent assault.

The Police officers believe that the suspect may have committed the offence on April 5 at Harry Village. The victim who was assaulted by the suspect was a stranger and shared no acquaintance with the victim.

According to the Police Public Relations officer, they have established that on the particular evening, the boy was coming from Harry Village. He had gone into the village to play with his friends. On his way back, he met the suspect at a certain bush.

The suspect, Kambanizithe stopped the victim and allegedly removed the boy’s clothes. Afterwards, he sucked the boy’s private part and later asked him to do the same on him.

“After the act, the suspect took K100 and gave it to the boy in order to silence him not to report the matter to anyone,” the police publicist added.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the boy reported the issue to her mother upon reaching home. The mother took the matter to the Police and reported the complete incident to the Balaka Police.

The Police force started the investigation into the matter. They have also arrested the suspect after he was on the run for over forty days after the incident.

The Police officers have also confirmed that Kambanizithe is a resident of the Chilobwe Village in Traditional Authority Kachenga in Balaka. He will appear before court soon to answer to the charge of indecent assault.
