Kenya: The Kenya Film Classification Board graced the 3rd Edition of the Eastern Talent Awards (ETA) Gala Ceremony, held at the KFCB’s Nairobi Film Centre (NFC), on Saturday 2nd September 2023.
While addressing participants, the Board’s Corporate Communications Manager, Nelly Muluka, who was the Chief Guest, lauded ETA for creating a platform to recognize and celebrate local creatives and individuals championing humanitarian initiatives in Kenya.
The KFCB is proud to be associated with ETA and applauds creatives who continue to put Kenya on the local and international stage,” she said. Muluka urged creatives to leverage initiatives being put in place by the Government to monetize and commercialize their talents.
She cited the Talanta Hela Initiative being spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, The Arts and Sports, noting that it is inclusive and is geared towards empowering all creatives and sportsmen to monetize their talents.
“It is, with no doubt, that talent is a powerful tool that young people can use to empower themselves for job opportunities and wealth creation,” she said.
She advised creatives to produce content that promotes Kenya’s diverse culture and champions values and national aspirations, noting that clean content sells.
Muluka further urged creatives and other stakeholders to support the Board’s clean content campaigns aimed at protecting children from exposure to harmful content.
“KFCB is committed to working with all stakeholders, including Video On Demand (VOD) platforms, on programs aimed at protecting children from exposure to inappropriate content,” she noted.
The Corporate Communications Manager reiterated the Board’s commitment to supporting the growth of the Creative economy through various interventions such as the Sinema Mashinani Initiative.
“As part of supporting the Creative industry, the Board acquired the 850-seater NFC with a view to creating a platform for creatives to showcase their diverse art,” she added.
Since its commissioning, said Muluka, the NFC has continued to pull in a steady stream of screening episodes and stage performances, among others, providing a conducive platform for content creators to market their works as well as earn from their craft.
The ETA Gala Awards brought together creatives and various dignitaries, among them Revered Lucy Natasha and Senator Sylvia Kasanga. Winners in different categories were awarded trophies and certificates.
