Botswana: Botswana Minister of Defence and Security, Thomas Kagiso Mmusi, officiated the Serowe Mindset Change Soccer Tournament in Serowe.
The aim of the tournament was to support the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promote the Mindset Change Campaign.
The Minister of Defence and Security honoured an invitation from Kgosi Serogola Seretse to participate in the soccer tournament, demonstrating government commitment to addressing GBV and promoting a positive mindset change in society.
The Minister ‘kicked off’ the tournament of twelve of Serowe’s football Social Clubs, and he supported Kgosi Seretse on his initiative with a hundred football balls and four sets of football kits. This gesture was warmly welcomed by Kgosi Seretse and the people who graced the official opening of the tournament.
In his remarks, the Minister did appreciate the efforts made by men to detach from gender-based violence, as they are most the perpetrators.
Mmusi said, “Men, the step you took…. shows that we as men are taking responsibility to change the way we have been doing things. It is appropriate that we reflect and hold our breath in implementing change … I would like to thank Kgosi Serogola Seretse for showing the wisdom of Solomon by gathering men to come and analyze themselves through sports ceremonies”.

Furthermore, he asserted, “The one thing that we should all clench on is: A Holistic Mindset Change, My Responsibility! – A re Chencheng, Maikarabelo Ke ame! The Minister asked the question, “O fa kae?” to everyone, not necessarily men only. O fa kae, fa masula a hupetsa lefatshe? Let us join hands and be against ‘masula a hupetsang lefatshe’. Maikarabelo Ke ame! It should be our everyday slogan.”
On the other hand, there is another match that was held on the same day between CAF African Schools Football Championship and COSAFA Qualifiers Zimbabwe 2023.
The young girls will be under the tutelage of Bonang Bebeto Mosetlha. The qualifiers will take place from December 14-16.
