The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority has announced adjusted fuel prices for the country after increase in international food prices.

Botswana: The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority has announced adjusted fuel prices for the country. The increase in the country’s fuel prices was considered necessary in light of the fluctuating prices of crude oil in the international market.

The local retailers have accordingly adjusted the fuel prices in accordance with the international rates. The team of the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority, the new fuel prices will be affective starting April 19.

According to the energy regulator, retail pump price of unleaded petrol 93 has been increased by 113 thebe per litre. Meanwhile the prices of unleaded petrol 95 rose by 105 thebe per litre.

The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority announced that the prices for diesel 50ppm were adjusted by 16 thebe per litre. The team has shared further modification in the prices. According to the team, retail pump price of Aviation Gasoline went up by 393 thebe per litre for Gaborone.

The prices jumped by 392 thebe per litre for Maun; 409 thebe per litre for Kasane; and 397 thebe per litre for Francistown.

“The increase in local prices is as a result of the general increase in international oil prices,” it said.

“Oil prices have been increasing mainly due to geo-political tensions as well as reduced supplies due to seasonal refinery maintenance”.

Crude oil prices went above $90 on Friday following news that Israel had carried strikes on Iran in retaliation following Tehran’s attacks last weekend. The above changes took effect from 00:01 hrs on Friday, 19th April 2024.

The new prices for the oil will affect the local economy of the country significantly. The local members of the community have shared their views on the new prices for the patrol diesel and other crude oil products.

The people are sharing their concern on the increasing prices of the petroleum products and other commodities in the country. The major reason for the jump in prices is the international instability and the resulting shortage of essential commodities in the world market.
