Botswana: The Botswana Police Service has expressed concern over the continued criminal cases they register from events and drinking outlets.
The National 60 days Campaign Against Crime and Road Traffic Accidents is currently ongoing, and Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube has urged members of the public to be safe & remain vigilant, adding that they must not let their guard down during the festive season.
Road accidents & traffic violations are also a cause for concern, and Rre Motube has pleaded with the public to please be safe on the roads, don’t drink & drive and obey traffic regulations.
He said a comprehensive report covering the months of November and December would be issued detailing the outcome of the nationwide 60 days Campaign Against Crime and Road Traffic Accidents. Crimes are increasing day by day, and people are suffering a lot, especially women. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi stated in his speech yesterday that it is embarrassing for him as Head of State, the manner in which women have been subjected to abuse.
In the state of the Nation Address last month, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi said despite efforts made against GBV, there continue to be reports of horrendous acts of abuse, where children and women are demeaned, bullied, defiled, raped and murdered.
As the year comes to an end, it is usually around this time of year that cases of Gender Based Violence are on the rise.
Masisi says it is the responsibility of the NGOs, Civil Society, Churches, Private and Public Sectors, as well as the nation at large, to ensure that the women of this country are valued and protected.
