Botswana: Police Officers of Botswana have been urged to excise healthy habits and continuously engage in physical fitness in order to execute their duties diligently.
The call was made by Deputy Divisional Commander South Central, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bonosi Ronald Molapisi today in Gaborone (20/06/2023) during a Wellness Day organised to sensitise officers on health issues under the theme “Employee wellbeing leads to employee productivity.’’
Police Commissioner Molapisi said regular physical exercises and good nutrition keep officers healthy and active at work leading to increased productivity.
He further encouraged participants to regularly do a health screening, adding that early diagnosis of diseases could help avert what could otherwise cause chronic disorders and threatening situations.
For his part, Trust Etelelang Serumola, a Life coach and counsellor, said his company had been much involved in wellness activities and educating members of the public on the importance of healthy living.
He said police officers are affected by stress disorder because they witness terrifying incidents such as accidents, suicides, murder and other social disasters that often require their intervention.
The wellness day was attended by police officers from South Central Division and its supporting staff, Botswana Blood Transfusion, Focus Vision and Diagnofirm laboratories.
The participants also had the opportunity to do health screening for various ailments such as HIV/AIDS, blood pressure and eye testing.
Botswana Police Officers engage in fitness activities. The Divisional Commander South Central, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Matthews Letsholo, said spiritual wellbeing is vital for a healthy life.
The Divisional Commander encouraged participants to always seek favour from God for their wellbeing. Letsholo urged participants to take physical training seriously as it can reduce the chances of being vulnerable to diseases.
Last year, on Wellness Day, Mogopodi Thatayaone, a Nurse at Block 8 Clinic, encouraged the audience to use government facilities to know their health status.
She said the aim is to get an insight into someone’s current and future wellness trends to help manage their health and well-being. She urged the participants to improve their lifestyles after receiving health information and advice.
