Botswana: The Director of Operations, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Katlholo Mosimanegape, has pleaded for more support and partnership with the police in the fight against crime.
Mosimanegape made the plea when addressing a full Council meeting for the City of Francistown to discuss issues related to crime this Wednesday (27/09/2023). He said crime is a national concern that has a negative impact on the quality of life for the citizens as well as the country’s economy. This, he said, calls for a robust partnership between Local Authorities to implement a series of measures aimed at making the City safer and more secure for all residents.
The Director raised a concern about council related issues, which hindered the police efforts, such as dark streets and bushy areas, which have inadvertently transformed into hideaways for criminals. He implored Council members to ensure that Francistown Council plays its role effectively, as this will hugely contribute to the success of both departments.
Mosimanegape pointed out that crime remains a persistent concern in the country. However, he appreciated the Northern Police Division for their continued good performance, noting that the Division has, for the past 11 years, cumulatively accounted for 20% of all recorded criminal activities.
In response, the Honourable Councillors praised the Botswana Police Service for their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of the nation. They commended the police for the meeting, saying it provided an invaluable opportunity for both parties to share insights and come up with solutions relevant to the City. They pledged to provide more support to the police for the achievement of a safer and secure Francistown and its environs.
