The Vice President of Botswana, Slumber Tsogwane recently handed over a bull to Narefo Boeng. The donation was made on behalf of the president of Botswana Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. Notably, the president has been working to encourage the farmers around the country.
Accordingly, he is currently donating 40 high pedigree bulls in Okavango, Ngamiland, Maun East, and Maun West. The Vice President asserted that the project is being implemented to highlight the agriculture sector of the country.
The Vice President spoke to the recipient of the bull, Narefo Boeng. He said, “Agriculture is not just about rearing livestock and growing crops but there is wealth in the industry.”
The Vice President said that agriculture changes lives as well as a main sector that Rural Development relies upon. Tsogwane believes that Rural Development is the main stream in developing livelihoods in rural areas. Therefore, it is important as it is capable of creating jobs thus uplifting lives.
The Vice President Tsogwane said Sustainable Development Goals dictates that no one should be left behind. In accordance with this mandate of the government, therefore Batswana should stand and be counted. He said the Botswana President, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi’s intention with the Bull Donation Initiative is to increase the country’s cattle heard, improve livestock quality as well as motivate Batswana to take up farming.
Slumber Tsogwane spoke to the recipient of the livestock on the significance of the donation. He explained that that the initiative is a part of the government’s endeavour to improve livestock rearing. Accordingly, the government has reduced training prices at Ramatlabana Artificial Inssemination Camp.
He added that a course that costs P6000 has been subsidised to cost only P500 while some courses cost about P350.
Vice President Tsogwane encouraged youth to venture into agriculture, tap into agricultural value chain projects and improve their lives.
His Honour donated bulls on behalf of the President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi at Phuduhudu, Xwee and Samedupe.
