The Botswana Police Service (BPS) and Botswana Defence Force (BDF) have come together to ensure public safety during festive season. The organizations have launched a joint operation to curb violence and criminal activities during the festive season.
The launch event for this programme was held at Gaborone West on Wednesday. The event was officiated by the President of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko. The launch event was hosted under the theme “A Crime-Free Festive Season and Beyond.”
The festive season is known to witness increased criminal activity, road rage incidents, traffic accidents and more. As such, this time is highly crucial for the law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant during this time.
The organization has shared that it is important for the community to assist the police, army and Defence Forces. The officials have shared some images from the event on their social media account ad shared that they were grateful for the president’s support.
The President of the country delivered a brief address at the launch event for the Festive Season Crime Prevention Operation. During his address, the President spoke about the rising challenges of crime, particularly youth involvement.
The President said that the crime incidents are on he rise due to unemployment in the country. He also acknowledged that sometimes incidents of violence by prominent individuals are left unreported.
He has asked the law enforcement agencies to do their duties well and exercise professionalism, Hee called on them to maintain public trust, and use minimal force for maintaining oeices.
The operation is being supported by key figures including the Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs Lesego Chombo. The event was also attended by the Commander of the Botswana Defence Force Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo, and Police Commissioner Dinah Marathe.
The attendance of these officials is proof of the fact that collaboration between the Botswana Police Service, Botswana Defence Force, and the public is smooth and strong.
President Boko officially launched the operation in front of the general public, signaling a collective effort to ensure peace and security throughout the holiday season and beyond.
