The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation, is hosting, for the first time, a Women in Business Export Development Workshop for female-owned businesses.
This serves as an ideal platform to expose women-owned businesses based in Nelson Mandela Bay to export opportunities and ensure broader participation of these companies in local and national export activities.
The initiative seeks to encourage women-owned companies to increase their footprint beyond the region, build and nurture a culture of exporting amongst women-owned businesses based in the Nelson Mandela Bay region and create a platform for sharing information on different business incentives available.
Facilitating export development training forms part of the Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture Directorate’s strategies to develop, promote, and grow the region’s exports.
Central to its strategies is the need to ensure geographic and demographic coverage of initiatives facilitated by the directorate.
This approach is aligned with the broader NMBM’s economic development policies of building an inclusive economy. Women’s participation and inclusion in programmes of this nature are therefore critical and would assist with achieving the metro’s aspirations of building an inclusive economy.
