Cape Town: The Recreation and Parks Department, Events and the organisers of the tournament hosted the official fixture draw of 37th Bayhill Premier Cup at the Banqueting Hall in the Cape Town Civic Centre.
Reportedly, the event was officiated by the industry dignitaries such as the Western Cape MEC for Sports and Culture –Ricardo Mackenzie, the head coach of Stellenbosch FC – Gavin Hunt, the Vice President of SAFA National – Bennet Bailey, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham and many others.
This year marks the 37th year since the inception of Bayhill and the 32-team tournament that comprises of the best 12 qualifying teams from the BPC play-offs. Five automatic qualifiers from the Western Cape and the balance of 15 teams are travelling in from outside the province and abroad.
Cllr Francine Higham stated that excitement is building for this year’s tournament and the fixture draw is completed. They are gearing up for a thrilling event. The support by the City of Cape Town is not only an investment in the sport, but it is also an investment in the future of the young people and their dreams.
“The tournament is set to once again bring together fans, sports enthusiasts, and the community. I encourage residents to come out in their numbers to support the teams giving their all to win the Bayhill Premier Cup title,” said Higham.
The popular Bayhill Premier Cup will take place at two venues i.e. Erica Park Stadium, Belhar from April 01 to 05, 2026 and Athlone Stadium on April 06, 2026 for the final and closing ceremony.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the City of Cape Town is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with the Bayhill Premier Cup. It is a platform that continuously provides an opportunity to young people to showcase their talent on a big stage.
Smith further stated that theirs is also to provide logistical support to the event organisers to ensure that this event is hosted safely and that the thousands of fans who will be heading to the stadium will have a memorable experience.
