Cape Town: The Urban Mobility Directorate of the City of Cape Town has started with a road marking project. It will cover several roads within the upper and central CBD as well as along the Atlantic Seaboard. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, and the most will take place during off-peak hours.
Reportedly, the planned road marking work will take place along several roads within the following suburbs. The work will be carried out in a phased approach across these areas:
- Atlantic Seaboard: Green Point, Sea Point, Fresnaye, Clifton, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay
- Upper CBD: Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek and Signal Hill
- Central CBD: Cape Town City Centre and District Six
- Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory
The night work will also take place between 07:00 p.m. and 04:30 a.m. from Monday to Thursday and daytime work has been scheduled between 09:00 a.m. and 03:30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility – Councillor Rob Quintas stated that the teams have scheduled most of the work during off-peak periods. It includes night work and Saturdays, to avoid adding to any traffic congestion. They aim to complete all the road which is marked by the end of June. He thanked road users for their patience. He also said that wherever possible, he recommend that commuters should use alternative routes during this period.
According to Quintas, such works include the repainting and refreshing of road markings to ensure the better visibility for both motorists and pedestrians. This forms part of the City of Cape Town’s ongoing road maintenance programme that aims at improving road safety.
Furthermore, the motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling through work zones. They are asked to adhere to temporary signage and be mindful of roadwork personnel on site. Residents and business owners can also expect some noise during this time.
The City of Cape Town apologises for any inconvenience caused. They also thanked the residents and road users for their cooperation as they work to maintain safe and efficient road infrastructure.
