Chelstone: Man arrested for injuring wife with knife, metal bar

Zambia: A man in Lusaka’s Chelstone area was arrested by police for brutally beating and wounding his wife. As per reports, the incident happened on Sunday afternoon in Meanwood Kwamwena phase three of Chelstone, where the husband suspected his wife to be cheating on him

Chifundo Soko is accused of unlawfully wounding his wife, Katuka Oliya Yobe, aged 30. Katuka Oliya Yobe is currently receiving treatment at the Levy Mwanawansa Teaching Hospital.

Police instituted investigations and recovered a knife and a metal bar, which are alleged to have been used to inflict the injuries. The victim sustained cuts on the face and a fractured right leg.

Brief facts of the matter are that the victim and her husband had a marital dispute, and then the suspect started beating her and accused her of having an extramarital affair with a named person. Police visited the scene of the crime and found a metal bar and knife with blood stains in the bathroom and corridor and broken beer bottles in the kitchen.

A docket of the case has been opened, and the suspect will soon appear in court. Residents are showing their anger toward the accused, seeking a stricter action from police.  So many people expressed their anger on social media, adding how marriages can be a scary affair sometimes.

“That’s why marriage is scary nowadays. Wish her a quick recovery; modern-day marriages should be on contract with terms and conditions,” said one of the locals.

Some of the residents also prayed for victim and her speedy recovery. “May God see them through, and we pray for a quick recovery for both of them,” said another user.

Many also added that the dispute at the victim’s family was common, and happened on regular basis.

“One of the neighbours of Katuka Oliya Yobe declined all the allegation against the women and said dispute in their home is very common, and the man is lying to defend himself. Yobe is a nice woman, and she can’t cheat her husband.”
