Zambia: A Chinese national identified as Wang Zhenlang allegedly stole about K100,000 from golden king investment in Kitwe, where he was an accountant before fleeing to China.
Police officers on the Copperbelt are investigating the matter, according to the Copperbelt Province Commissioner of Police Peacewell Mweemba, Garnerton police received a report of the theft by a servant from Xie Zhen Fang, who is a manager at Golden King Investment.
Mweemba explained brief facts that the suspect, on December 14th 2023, informed the Company that he did not want to continue to work and wanted to go back to China, after which it was discovered that he had run away with $5000, which is equivalent to k100,000 after an inspection of the office where he was operating.
According to Mweemba, the Company contacted the suspect by phone on December 19th 2023 and discovered that he had already left the company premises where he used to stay.
He says investigations into the matter are still under process; citizens are requested to collaborate with the government and disclose and inform if there are any findings of the accused.
Zambia is Africa’s second-biggest producer of copper, which accounts for the majority of the 12% GDP contribution the mining sector makes to the landlocked country and is a country with a tremendous amount of gold mines where its government is keen to tap into mineral resources produced from the informal mining sector to stem soaring national debt.
