Botswana: The President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Professor Peter Scott met the Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe. Professor Scott was accompanying the director, SADC Center for Distance Education Dr Mmabaledi K. Seeletso to the meeting.
During the courtesy call on the Minister of Education et al, the President and CEO of COL met the management of the Ministry. During the initiative, Professor Scott and Dr Seeletso discussed the promotion of Open and Distance Learning.
The meeting between the education stakeholders happened in the office of the Minister of Education, Dr Letsholathebe on Monday. The meeting highlight the support from the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) to the Open and Distance Learning(ODL).
The president of v Commonwealth of Learning also sought to demonstrate his commitment to the CoL event. The  Ministry of Education and Skills Development and Botswana Open University (BOU) are spearheading the initiative for 2025.
President and CEO of Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Professor Peter Scott pledged to make the programme a resounding success. The members of the education and skill development ministry were delighted to welcome CoL representatives.
The organization has remained an ardent supporter of the Ministry of Education in all of their endeavours. Minister of education reiterated his appreciation for the support the ministry gets from CoL. The Commonwealth of Learning has been supporting the ministry’s development initiatives through Botswana Open University.
He said through the schools digitalization project, the ministry aims to eventually stretch out Open Distance Learning in all schools. The aim of the initiative is to answer the Sustainable Development Goal 4 of not leaving anyone behind.
The Minister further said Open Distance Learning helps achieve access to education. At the time, the initiative also reduces costs without even compromising the quality of education.
Professor Scott is currently in Botswana on an official visit. He is scheduled to meet with Vice Chancellors from various public Universities this Wednesday. During the meeting, he will have the opportunity to explore possible areas of collaboration.
