South Africa: The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, together with South African Police Services, Mahikeng Local Municipality and Home Affairs (Immigration), kick started the weekend with a roadblock operation at R49 Zeerust road in Mahikeng.

This operation ensures that road users comply with the road safety rules by having the required documentation and roadworthiness of vehicles before they can be taken to the public roads, uttered MEC Sello Lehari during the early morning operation in Mahikeng.

MEC Lehari further edged motorists to be more vigilant as the festive season gradually approaches, and the number of vehicles will escalate. “Total compliance is needed to reduce incidents and fatalities in the province and national road,” said MEC Sello Lehari during interaction with motorists.

Mahikeng Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Tshepiso Mphehlo and management from the department accompanied MEC Sello Lehari.

This operation is one of the road safety campaigns that will continue to take place across the province.

Yesterday, MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, joined by the Rustenburg, Executive Mayor Cllr Sheila Mabela- Huma, Mayor of Moretele LM Cllr Masango George Manyike as well LED MMC in Bojanala Cllr Karani Mohamed.

The delegation is at the Road Incident Management System (RIMS)simulation site near Mooinooi.

RIMS is a pre-planned and coordinated response to incidents with the aim of restoring normal road capacity and safety levels as quickly as possible.

It consists of all relevant role players that collectively undertake the planning, coordination and management of incidents. Role players include primary emergency services (EMRS, Fire Services, SAPS, Traffic etc.) who respond to incidents.
