Mauritius: Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram shared the progress of the construction of a Flyover on Motorway M2 at Terre Rouge Roundabout. The Minister highlighted that the construction is at 80% of its completion and is expected to be ready by mid-October 2024.
The announcement was made during an inspection of the site at Terre Rouge Roundabout on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Soodesh Satkam Callichurn.
The aim of the visit is to take stock of progress of works for the construction of the flyover. Minister Hurreeram said that he was satisfied by the progress of works.
He highlighted that the Terre Rouge Roundabout is operating beyond capacity during both peak and off-peak hours. , with a traffic flow of 6000 vehicles per hour and subsequent queuing along Motorway M2 and adjacent roads.
So as to address this problem, he highlighted, the Flyover, is being constructed to allow free flow of traffic on the Motorway, especially for vehicles travelling from the North and are South bound.
Hurreeram underlined that the project is in line with Government’s vision to modernise the road network. They want to provide a better road interface through more fluid and safer access.
The project will further increase the level of service of the road to enhance both safety of vehicles and pedestrians. At the same time, the project will also enhance surrounding infrastructures.

Terre Rouge Roundabout Flyover project
The project includes the construction of a reinforced concrete dual carriageway Flyover of 325m length and 18m in width on pier over the Terre Rouge Roundabout on M2 Motorway for Southbound and Northbound traffic and the construction of acceleration and deceleration lanes on both sides for Southbound and Northbound traffic. The construction of the Terre Rouge Flyover is being made by General Construction Ltd, at an estimated cost of Rs 427,094,406.90.
