Zambia: The Copperbelt Province has recorded an unfortunate incident involving a suspected mental patient of Kitwe’s Buchi area who escaped serious injury. A criminal who has not been identified allegedly tried to chop off the victim’s private parts.
The Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba has shared some details of the incident. He said that the victim is a suspected mentally unstable patient, who is found most often at a dumpsite behind Zambeef Buchi branch in Kitwe.
Mweemba has revealed that the incident happened on December 26 2024, around 05:30 hours. Some young boys found the suspected mental patient having his testicles almost being cut by an unidentified criminal. The boys allegedly pick plastic bottles at the dumpsite.
The criminal then left after these boys saw him and the victim in that position. The criminal allegedly left his weapon, a knife at the scene near the victim.
The Copperbelt Province commanding officer Mweemba shared that the police revived the reports of the incident on Thursday. The investigation into the incident has started.
The commanding officer also confirmed that Moses Nkole, a Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) officer, reported the matter to the police station.
Upon receiving the concerning reports regarding the assault, the police dispatched to the scene of the crime. They found the mentality I’ll person with a deep wound on his private parts and he was bleeding profusely.
Officer Mweemba stated that the victim is currently receiving treatment at Kitwe Teaching Hospital. The victim is confirmed to be in a stable condition. The culprit is yet to be identified by the police however it is confirmed that the man was a criminal who was taking advantage of the victim’s fragile mental state
The commanding officer said that the investigation into the matter has been taking place. The officials of the Copperbelt Province police force have started making enquiries onto the matter
