Councillor Pophaim honors Tafelsig’s residents with ‘Title Deeds’

Cape Town: The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements Councillor – Carl Pophaim, and his official delegates from the Directorate handed over the title deeds in Tafelsig on Wednesday, February 07, 2024.

The City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate is increasing the distribution of the Title Deeds under the Festive Deeds Challenge.

Previously, the City’s Human Settlements Directorate made progress of qualifying 1,000 homeowners in December 2023.

Councillor Carl Pophaim and officials delivered more title deeds to homeowners in Mitchell Plain.

The councillor said that they succeeded in their mission to create almost 1,500 new homeowners in the last few months of 2023.

He expressed himself and said, “I am so excited to continue along this journey of creating even more homeowners through handing over keys and deeds title. We are shifting to the highest possible gear in 2024 and ensuring our ambitious targets are met.”

Councillor Pophaim also said that it was an absolute pleasure to celebrate with the beneficiaries and their families in Tafelsig today. Having access to tenure is life-changing and brings dignity to residents and their loved ones for many generations to come.

“Thank you to our teams for making this possible,” said Pophaim.

Pophaim added to his words that he is excited to see the progress they are making. He said that they are on a mission to deliver 1,000 title deeds and keys to new homes to qualifying beneficiaries this festive season.

He also said that it was an absolute pleasure to celebrate with more title deeds beneficiaries and their families in Mitchells Plain. Seeing smiles on the faces of the people who are receiving the title deeds means so much to him.

The Human Settlements Councillor mentioned that Homeownership is life-changing and brings dignity to beneficiaries and their loved ones for many generations to come. “We are passionate about empowering residents and we ask residents to spread the news and inform their neighbours and loved ones that the City will be in areas across the metro to deliver title deeds,” said the councillor.

The new campaign puts in place additional resources to find beneficiaries with better tracking and tracing. The campaign makes sure that the title deeds are handed over to the right and actual needy people.

Considering the same, the councillor informed that their team had set aside a total of some R21.6 million in 2023. The directorate currently has more than 12,000 title deeds on its registry.

The Festive Deeds Challenge aims to make a very real difference in the lives of the residents and show delivery in action working towards the development of Cape Town.
