Crocodile attack kills youth in Lupososhi District

A 23 year old man of Sub Chief Mutondo Chiefdom in Lupososhi district has been killed as a result of a crocodile attack.

Zambia: A 23-year-old man of Sub Chief Mutondo Chiefdom in Lupososhi district has been killed as a result of a crocodile attack. The accident happened in the Kasakalabwe stream in Lupososhi District where the victim had gone for fishing.

The deceased has been identified as Peter Kabaso. The officials have shared that they have started an investigation into the accident.

According to the initial investigation, the victim allegedly went to the Kasakalabwe stream to fish where the reptile attacked him. The family of the deceased were alerted of the situation when he did not return home.

At this point, the community members started looking for the victim. They also alerted Sub Chief Mutondo, who confirmed the incident with the media in Lupososhi.

He informed the media that Kabaso was suspected of going fishing on Friday but never returned home. He said his injured body was only discovered on Sunday on the occasion of Easter after members of the community started looking.

The traditional leader said the deceased was discovered without the heart, private parts and intestines. He added that the late Kabaso had his left hand chopped off and was discovered meters away from his body.

Sub-Chief Mutondo further said the body of the deceased was buried on Sunday afternoon after authority from the Zambia Police. The family members do not suspect any foul play in the accident and death of the victim.

Meanwhile, the traditional leader has urged the government to intervene through the Department of National Parks and Wildlife. The situation is becoming alarming for the people who are calling on the administration to crop the reptiles in the area.

He said people have continuously lived in fear of the suspected crocodiles that often attack them.

The various districts of Zambia have experienced accidents associated with crocodile attacks, The accidents have even claimed the lives of many people living in settlements made around water bodies.

The people of the Sub Chief Mutondo Chiefdom in Lupososhi district have been traumatized by the accident. Several families are also worried about their personal safety and the safety of their family living in crocodile-prone regions.
