Zambia: The government of Zambia has reached an advanced stage with plans to construct a Dam at Salanga in Mwansabombwe District. The dam construction will help significantly in the country’s plans to promote water harvesting mandate of the district.
Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu has shared some details about the construction project. The dam will be constructed under the fast truck arrangement in order to harvest water this coming rainy season.
Nzovu disclosed that the dam construction is part of the drought response that wants to ensure that the country harvests as much water as possible. The media has also reported the development within the district.
According to the media, the minister said this when he called on Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people of Mwansabombwe District at his palace yesterday.
Minister Nzovu has also disclosed that the government will drill over 2000 boreholes across the country. This will be done to answer the water needs of the people following the drought that was experienced in last rain season.
He added that to avoid human animal conflict, the government will also construct water holes for both domesticated and wild animals.
The Minister has since applauded Chiefs in the country for their role in ensuring peace in communities saying without peace there cannot be meaningful development in the country.
Further, Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people of Mwansabombwe District has called on the government to continue working hard in ensuring that it provides for the people.
Mwata Kazembe observed that water is life and that any efforts that are aimed at providing water are commendable.
He has since thanked the government for considering Mwansabombwe for the construction of a dam saying the construction of a dam will be key in providing water to the people in the area.
The Water Development and Sanitation Minister is in Luapula Province on a familiarisation tour of water projects in the province.
