KwaZulu Natal (Blackburn): The decomposing remains of a suspected rape victim were located in a sugarcane plantation in Blackburn – KZN on Tuesday afternoon.
A passerby contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 5:59 p.m. after he discovered the maggot-infested remains while investigating a spicy aroma.
Reaction Officers & RUSA Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the location, and on arrival, they found a large crowd gathered at the scene.
Officers were led to the remains by the caller. Most of the body was reduced to skeletal remains. The deceased’s track pants and underwear were lowered to the ankles.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) are investigating further. The family of the victim is still unaware of the facts, and Police are investigating the matter and trying to locate the family of the victim.
Residents are also concerned for the family and blame the country for rising crime. “So sad. And that person’s family must be looking for them. This is a sick country. We are in a bad state, and it’s sad that nothing is being done to make this country a safer place,” said one of the residents.
Anger in local people is clearly visible and especially related to the crime against women. “This is heart breaking seen that the pants and underwear was lowered shows what took place… I pray whoever she was, may her soul rest in peace… Lord, I pray whoever has done this will never get a chance to do it to anyone else,” said another local user.
