Cape Town has recorded surge in tourists considering the count of 2025. As CTIA soared 11 million passengers for the first time and marked this major milestone, several delegates have shared their remarks on this.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis shared a post and stated that “Wonderful news! We’ve broken the 11 million mark, for the first time!” He stated that the visitor economy brings many more jobs to Cape Town and helps in getting more Capetonians out of poverty. That is their purpose.
As per Lewis, tourism in Cape Town is one of the only sectors of the South Africa economy growing at the rate needed to really ring unemployment down in the country. He said that it is great to see more and more people coming to Cape Town for leisure and business.
CTIA also shared an achievement note and stated that Cape Town International Airport has recorded a record-breaking 11.1 million two-way passengers during 2025, cementing the status of the Cape Town as a top tourist destination.
According to data from Airports Company South Africa, the airport has also processed 3.3 million international two-way passengers in 2025, representing a 7% increase from 2024.
CEO of Wesgro – Wrenelle Stander stated that when you grow tourism, you stimulate growth, strengthen competitiveness and create jobs in communities across the province. That is why it is such an important priority.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos stated that it is one of the most rewarding parts of his role to work with the Air Access team to secure new routes and more direct flights to Cape Town.
He further stated that aviation economy is a powerful driver of the tourism value proposition and a key catalyst for economic growth and jobs. James Vos further added that, “I’ve been holding thumbs for us to pass the 11-million-passenger mark, so this milestone is especially encouraging.”
“When passengers fly to Cape Town, they spend in our hotels, restaurants, and small businesses, directly supporting employment across the city,” stated James Vos.
He added to his statement that with tourism already employing nearly 7% of the workforce, his focus is to grow this number by ensuring everything they do, from flights to campaigns and delivers real results.
